Students Study Granbury Opera House and A.P. Gordon House
Dr. T. Lindsey Baker brought Tarleton State University’s graduate and undergraduate Public History students to Granbury November 27 for a class session. Preserve Granbury’s Consulting Executive Director Mary Saltarelli conducted the class.
During a classroom session at the Langdon Center, Mary talked to students about local, state and national preservation challenges and professional work opportunities in historic preservation.
Mary presented two hands-on preservation projects currently underway in Granbury: preservation of the Langdon Center and rehabilitation of the Granbury Opera House.
After the class, student Shawn Tackett wrote, “I very much enjoyed your lecture to our class today and learning more about some of the buildings in the town where I grew up.”
Mary reviewed with students the occurrences of the past year regarding the rehabilitation of the Opera House along with current plans to expand the theater to the south.
Mary also reviewed the process and materials that Preserve Granbury submitted to the Texas Historical Commission to seek a determination that the Gordon House is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places
